In 1983, April was
proclaimed the first National Child Abuse Prevention Month. As a result, child
abuse, neglect as well as awareness activities are promoted throughout the
country during April of each year.
In the video below,
Sharon Simms, Marty Oliphant and Chester Adessa discuss the activities in Hawaii in support of Child Abuse Prevention Month.
The Coalition of the Hawaii Children’s Trust Fund (HCTF) provides a community voice as well as a forum for promoting prevention through family strengthening and strategies for statewide planning and advocacy. Membership in the HCTF Coalition is open to any agency representative, family advocate and/or parent throughout the state of Hawai‘i who are committed to the prevention of child abuse and neglect.
You may contact the Coalition at info@hawaiichildrenstrustfund.org
The Office on Child
Abuse and Neglect (OCAN) within the Children's Bureau coordinates Child Abuse
Prevention Month activities at the Federal level, providing information and
releasing updated national statistics about child abuse and neglect. Many
governors also issue proclamations to encourage initiatives and events in their
States.
